Been meaning to put these together for a few weeks now but just now got around to doing it. The mating lasted about 10 minutes while I was taking photos during the entire process. They didnt seem to mind making porn in front of me LOL
The spermataphore was very small and my camera isnt good enough to show it.

I'm not familiar with this species (I wonder why). Is the female on the left hand side? The male (RHS) seems to have longer metasomal segments. No sexual sting employed.

Ignore the first photo, that one is ass about to the others I think.

Howdy Mark,
Yes the male is the one with the long segments on the metasoma. There was no sexual sting. In fact I have never seen this occur with any of the species I have.

BTW, This species is native to the Virgin Islands and perhaps other nearby islands although I am not sure of that completely

Seems odd that such a sexually dimorphic species in relation to the length of the metasoma does not emply the sexual sting. Only species I have that does it is Urodacus elongatus. A very strongly sexually dimorphic species.

Hi Mark, I belive all male Centruroides have more elongated metasomal segments. That is the main sexual dimorphism for the genus. As for sexual stinging, I've never seen or heard too much of it on arachnoboards, but I have read about it.

Just watched back Centruroides flavopictus flavopictus mating (video), and the female does stroke the male on its left and right side with her tail, but the video isn't good enough to see if it's actual stinging.

I want to write out each and every step I observed later this month and make the video available online. It's very impressive to see mating, sadly the quality is low. Really need better stuff to film this good.
