Ok, I've heard through the "grapevine" that in the United States, the sale or distribution of highly venomous scorpions(Ex. Androctonus, Leirus, Parabuthis) is prohibited. I would like to know if anyone knows this to be correct, and if it is, are there any written documents or "files" that prove this. I'm just curious because I'm back on my feet and was wanting to add some Parabuthis species to my collection. Any info will be highly appreciated! Thanks everyone!

If any laws exist they would be local, not nation wide. I can buy all of those species at my local pet store, when they get them. If you are going to purchase them you would need to know the local laws.

Yeah, I have been worried about this as well, although I don't think they have any laws about this where I live. I hope not.:)

Here in Las Vegas I can't think of any limitations (for arachnids)... as a matter of fact I had some of the local entomologist asking if I would donate some of my collection for their lectures lol...

Their are limitations to how you get them, as in mailing/shipping.

Parabuthus is actually not as venomous as a lot of other species. Most Tityus spp. are more venomous, along with quite a few Centruroides spp.

This law may be local to your as others have suggested, but it's not a national law. Every city has it's own wildlife laws as well as the national law.

For instance anacondas aren't banned to own, well I don't know lately with all the laws but this is just an exmaple. Here in Louisiana it's not illegal to own an anaconda, but if you go to Jefferson Parish(parishes are counties, just we're the only state with parishes) then it's illegal to own anacondas because of a parish law.

My dream snake  we can own there here too. But wow, too big and dangerous unless you have multiple experienced handlers. I got to hold and play with a 3' baby green anaconda. It was love at first slither I'm telling you!

But alas, I'm an arachnid kind of gal :) (well, with a mini zoo of other animals) I think here for the mammals (exotics) you'd need permits (even for your dog)... As well as for me to adopt my desert tortoise I had to get a husbandry permit thing.... and have biologist inspect my burrow and yard etc...

I kept a Yellow Anaconda, and when the pet store by me closed down and I was moving and couldn't have snakes or the room for the big tank, I had to find my girl another owner. Took me about two months because no way was I going to let some inexperienced person get her, I wanted to make sure she was cared for and handled like she was when she was with me so I eventually found a guy and I get weekly updates on her now. When I sold her for $50, basically to cover gas cost, she was around 5'-6' and as docile as can be. I drove almost two hours with her wrapped around my hand/arm sitting on my lap. I used to always pet her under the head and she seemed to have loved it.

Pet laws are in place because some idiot always did something stupid with what is usually banned.
