Any stone has the potential to harm a tarantula, particularly in the case of an arboreal due to the fall risk. So, it’s not a matter of lava stone being a problem but stones in general. I have a couple terrestrials I keep in enclosures with smooth river stones, and I have some various rocks in scorpion enclosures. However, I would not suggest, nor would I personally put any type of stone in an arboreal enclosure. This is just one person’s opinion.

All hard objects are a risk if the T falls on it from a height. Arboreal Ts are better climbers than terrestrials, but I would not risk it personally.

i think the risk with the lava rock is that it is much courser and could cause an abrasion injury.
