The grossa is nearing a molt, I think.

And shots of their enclosures. Baah for the blasted white peat; it truly looks like cow dung. I can only be glad that no one else appears to mind. We'll see how well the shells work(if the water can stay there for more than an hour :p )
Exhibit A hasn't discovered it's arboreal yet ;)

;)

Iheringi.

I thought I'd try and be a bit artistic and vague- so I placed the shipping containers (with their labels) next to the spiders in those two shots, as (almost) the only reference to what the two species were, albeit mixed up.

For further clarification, I know Grammys tend not to show much of any arboreal tendencies, but I liked that particular setup nevertheless.

So the one with the iheringi vial is the grossa, and vice versa.
The grossa (the first spider pictured) will likely look a bit prettier in a week or two :)

Yes, I noticed that a lot of my grammys, grossas in particular, look particularly ratty before a molt, but boy o' boy, do they ever look nice afterward. Grossas and iheringis are two of my favorites, I have a few of each! What type of wood is that? I really like it, I would like to get some.

Then I have something to look forward to :)

http://www.aquaristic.net/Productinformation/Mopani-root.html

It's relatively heavy, and let me state that it takes quite a long time to saw through with a thin small-toothed metal-saw :p

I wonder how it's harvested though.. ; wouldn't want to be supporting the felling of rainforest trees specifically for the sake of their roots or something similiar.

Just curious, have you seen a juvie or adult grossa? It doesn't look like what you have, they change a lot from slings to adult. Yours is still a molt or two away from what it really looks like, you are in for a really pleasant surprise!

I have seen a few pictures, but never one 'in the flesh'. It shall be very fun to see it progress, and just what lies ahead of this upcoming molt! (It does look like a little ogre now :p )

And it's actually a bit refreshing to have a pair of slings that do not run like pine needles on the wind whenever you think about nudging their container. They move a little bit when I nudge them, but that's about it. Good little Grammys :)
