So, a while back I picked up a bunch of adult/subadult Monocentropus lambertoni with the intention of starting a commune.

When they arrived there was one very rough looking specimen which was rather orange. I found this very suspicious as I hadnt seen a lambertoni with such color. Here are a couple of photos-

As it was so rough looking I didn't completely doubt it was lambertoni. But I still kept it out of the commune just in case.

Ever since I got it I thought it was very calm and of a gentle disposition, compared to almost every other lambertoni. There was no threats and stridulating at the slightest disturbance. This all contributed to more doubt.

Then came the webbing. It webbed up so much aha. I was pretty shocked. I was almost certain that it was a different species by this point.

I went to check on it the other night and it had moulted.

This is what it looks like now -

.... yep. Thats right. Not a lambertoni.

I'm pretty sure it is a bloody Chilobrachys huahini  I am mot 100% on this as I have never owned a Chilobrachys sp. before but I guess there is a first time for everyhing ahah

Can anyone clarify if thats what it is? Or does anyone have any suggestions to what else it could be?

Thanks

You know, I think this one is much prettier than your lambertonis :p:sorry:. My first thought when I saw the pic and before I read your text was Chilobrachys, but no clue what species. I didn't know Chilobrachys were gentle, though.

The front legs made me think Chilo. It was trying so hard to be a lambertoni too. Even roughed itself up ahah. What a transformation with the moult :wideyed:

Yeah. It was the brown one in the tub that I uploaded to gallery! I always thought the front legs were oddly long. I didnt think Chilobrachys were gentle either but this thing has great manners :angelic:

Could be another Chilobrachys species but definitely not huahini, mine's only a juvie but C. huahini is pretty blonde with dark toes while teneral and then it darkens into the "fawn" colour once hardened.

There's tons of undescribed Chilobrachys in the hobby, many of them look alike. There's no real way to ID it past the genus level.

You sure? Thanks for your input mate.
I wonder what it could be.

Its still pretty fresh in the photos I took. All the images I can find of huahini it looks like both before and after the moult.

I am very interested to see what it is. I had a word with the seller and they said it could have been huahini as they had them too. So I just suspected that.

But like I said. I aint got no clue about this genus :astonished:

The only time mine has looked grey was when I got her as a tiny sling

I can't actually coax her out to get a good pic but she moulted 9 days ago and she's golden brown with charcoal toes.
