L. parahybana

last night i was feeding my inverts and looking in on my C. hentzi scorpions that popped out babies
and i noticed my L. parahybana was eating on her molted skin.

is this normal, has any of your T's done this strange thing.
If this is normal, is there a certian reason for this.

out of the 5 yrs been into T's never ever seen such a thing before.

I am not worried of this odd behavior, just thought is was odd

Hey, it's perfectly normal. Often they will eat thier old skin to keep the burrow from piling up with old casts. So its just instinct kickin in. No worries.

I guess there might be nutrients or stored moisture left in it, too. That's why a lot of lizards will eat their own shed skin. Waste not!

I haven't had any eat their molts either......but then again I usually pull them out fairly quickly.

More specifically...they are known to sometimes do this to keep any predators from encountering the shed, and then deciding to hunt them down next. This is the reason why lots of lizards eat their skin...no evidence of a tasty treat left behind to give them away or let a predator know they are close by. Tarantula's also can eat their molts to regain lost nutrients or even moisture, as stated in the TKG.

Yip, perfectly normal for them to do that.
