Obligate burrower.
Secretive obligate burrower.
Slow growing to the point of being painful for females.
Yet another brown tarantula.
Potentially significant venom.

There's 5 reasons not to get one according to my reasoning.

If you need 'talking into' buying a spider, then it obviously isn't suitable for you; don't go getting one just because others say to.

But... Upon receiving a C.Crawshayi you'll immediatly love it. From it's colouration and smooth hair, then when you see it walk off with it's bulldog like rear legs :) I love how smooth and rounded it appears, it's very hard to describe though, something you need to see for yourself in the flesh.

I got a big female on Friday, she regurlarly comes out at nightfall though, so that's going to be a pain regarding photoes of her.

So far it's somewhate docile, much preferign to scurry off rather than act defensive as the stereotype suggests. I can't wait to hear this baby stridulate though *drools*

Thats the reason I have been considering this one,
on top of the fact it has a Reddish brown color..............
so, its not "just another brown spider"

They do look very soft and fuzzy..... not like I plan on petting it:eek: Mature T's seem to pound the ground when they walk.
I'd say "bulldog" fits this T.

Slow growth was another good reason to get it. I do not plan on
breeding it, so its rate of growth does not matter.

Venom is not an issue really, of course I'll be careful and make sure the little beast is properly locked up. I have kids:?

Ok, I have NOT been talked out of it yet ;P
The next show is on Saturday so..............................

Go ahead and get it, you will love it once you get the crawshayi. They are secretive burrowers as mentioned. You will not see ot much and the slow growth rate is a real pain, but they are beautiful and have distinct personalities.

Yeah mine is around the 8-9inch mark, it's body being over 3 inches which combined with it's is intimidating to say the least!

But seriously, when you see it in real life you'll either click or you wont with its appearance...

The nearest thing to compare it to would be the 'indian mocasons' (spelling? The shoe type things they wear)

My advice to you is to set up a burrow for it; if you allow it to dig it's own, you won't see it. I constructed the burrow of mine in a fashion that whilst it is hidden, at an angle with a torch I can see her. I also made a black panel that is removable from the glass so I can see into the artificial burrow I made with an upturned tuppaware tub with two sections cut out to make doors. The piled earth on top. I'll get photoes once I learn to use the sodding camera

Oh mine's called "King Looey" as in the king of the monkeys from "The Jungle Book" ;)

hey

Get the Crawshayi

you won't regret it.

I have one and It's my only OW adult. She's a femme and I got

her real cheap from a pet store. I suggest you get an adult

though. They are so pretty. I tought also that it was going to be

just a brown T, but the fact is that it's really pretty brick red T.

I think people should be scare once in a while, Mine did when she

stradulated( I didn't know what it was back then) but thrust me it

was really cool! Any ways go for the Crashayi.

other than slow growers there isn't much to bad things to say

about it.

have a nice day

these spiders are awsome, you want to get one from Bryan? right? thats exactly where i got mine! It just molted the other day, and it is a ferocious eater and very cute, even though it does go into threat posture every time you take a look at it, mine for some reason does not burrow, but is more of a display spider. My brother David (Scorp l.) is in love with all the baboons and he says you should definatley get one!
Here is a pic of my 1"+ beauty!

I have noticed some variation in temperament, but generally they are reclusive burrowers. However, if you keep them in a glass aquarium on a glass table, you should be able to see their undersides. That is not as nice as seeing it walk around but you do get a _wonderful_ view of it's fangs.:D

hah what is it with me having the spiders that are reputable nasty buggers, yet mine are docile? King Looeey will let me touch her and I havn't had the pleasure fo a threat posture yet

I'll try for some pics of it on my hand, not with the intentions to be 'macho' just to show this species has a soft side ;)

They do remind me of teddy bears though

EDIT: MizM your link thing hasn't worked, here's the link:

Second Edit: EEEEYUK! That C.Crawshayi has an awful colour, mine is a lot lighter sandy colour (sorry if I come accross as a "mine's better than yours!" attitude, I'm just saying they look better lighter a mon avis)
