I was reminded of this from another thread. So simple!

Local animal keeper. Damp and mold is a constant problem in the tropics. Checking out a series of about 50 terrariums, each had a humidistat and an ordinary red brick partly buried in the substrate. He has a small convection oven, fan forced air. As he was tending to his containments he'd check the humidistat. Too high he swapped out the brick.
He kept a supply of bricks in a large sealed box that had desiccant boxes on the bottom. The bricks are sponges, absorbing water. Load up the oven with damp bricks, run for a half hour, then store the now ultra dry bricks for future use.
So simple, and effective!

Of course there are more hygroscopic materials. He chose bricks due to them being inert, non toxic, inoffensive appearance and readily available.

Oh yes. He took an ordinary propane torch and quickly went over the surface of all the dried bricks. Instant spore killer.
