2012 old news
(wet blanket :grumpy:).
This is interesting. Casual observations have given people this impression but the reality is quite fascinating. The ability of spiders to manipulate web from the spinnerets with their claws or setae, akin to a combination of multiple needle knitting and needle point. Adding complexity, the spinnerets produce different kinds of filaments in varying quantities, all manipulated blind, instinctively, and producing numerous different kinds of webs. Then even more complex, again without eyesight, the spider uses innate memory and minute vibrations to know where to attach the new threads. It takes a quite sophisticated computer program to emulate how and where an orb weaver builds a simple web - all worked out through triangulation similar to using a transit to establish statistic coordinates.

Can you create me a robotic spider pet about 6 ft. dls?

Except the stuff ... oh wait. Does the media mentality crowd even read any more? Seems the closest many of them get to paper these days is hanging on the walls beside the toilet.

Spin me back down the years and the daze of my youth..... Observing the JPL, Cal Tech and MIT crowd working on robotics in the late 60's. Emulation of simple mechanics of various animals. And here we are, over 50 years later and are still trying to develop the basic basal motions of animals, the AI still elusive.
