Just ordered two new T's from PetcenterUSA, very nice guy (I had to chat with them for a moment) I'm getting:
Pterinopelma sazimai (Brazilian Blue?)
Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens (Green Bottle Blue).

I've been reading up on both, and I'm still doing more and more reading, but with the info I've found on P. sazimai being over a year old so far, I was just curious to if anyone has any updated info on them. I've read they like higher humidity but cooler temps (by that 75-80 daytime and a little cooler at night), but they like a more dry substrate (not bone dry though) rather then swampy as well as a lot of substrate for them to burrow with. I have everything needed to have their setups ready but before I put it together I wanted to make sure I'm going for the right set up. And another question I have is can you tell gender by color with this species? Some of what I have read hinted at that might being possible?

Figured I would ask now as I expect they will probably be arriving Tuesday. (The day my mother who is arachnophobic will be visiting. Should be entertaining. lol)

Have to say though, it's not lie. Once you start you can't stop. Our list consists of:
A. versicolor (our first back in september)
G. porteri
G. pulchripes
B. smithi
L. parahybana
and now we add
P. sazimai
C. cyaneopubescens

Anyways any personal experiences or knowledge would be appreciated. I'm still sifting through forum posts, if you have any useful links feel free to post them. I've already been reading through these links so reposting these threads would not be helpful to me:

Anyways like I said, going and seeing if anyone has anything that's updated or new info different from what's already out there.

Only the females are blue, and males end up brown. Probably one of the ugliest males to end up with, right alongside male O.v.'s when compared to the females.

True. Check how much P.muticus males sucks if compared to the Goddess :-s

Any idea about what size they are before you know for sure which way their colors are going to go? Or is it easily an instant deal?

I don't know from experience. They are a mid-sized species as you may know. I'm only guessing here, but maybe 3.5". Email Netbugs, I'm pretty sure Anastasia recently bred them. And when you learn said info, come back and teach us!

Lol. I may do that. You know it would be nice if here in the forums a subforum was made for Tarantula Care Sheets. Then topics pinned, one for each species. Then left open to post to so care info could be put there and personal care experiences, questions and answers. You know? So everything is kept together instead of having to search forum post after forum post. Have it all in one place to look through and read. It would make it easier to refer people to as well I'd think.

Understood, sort of like the picture forum. The issue w/that is everyone keeps their Ts differently. So if someone reads the info, they may be just as confused after reading it. Though at least it would be centralized hopefully.

The point would be it being centralized most of all. And people do care differently. I think there is a lot to be taken from that as well, if a person gets confused rather then be able to understand the concepts behind different care methods to be able to apply accordingly to their own needs. Then they may want to look into another hobby. This isn't a good one to get into if a person doesn't want to learn.

My juvie female P. sazimai was a bit over 2" when I got her and she was already starting to show her blues. She's molted a couple times since and is around 3" now and her blues (and red on her abdomen) seem to get more vivid with each molt.

As far as care and substrate they seem to like it a bit in the middle...not bone dry (though they could survive with it as long as they have a water dish...they're pretty hardy it seems) but also definitely not damp like Theraphosa. What I have found pretty effective is to have the bottom portion of the sub on one half of the enclosure damp but leave the top pretty dry with the occasional sprinkling of water. They are obligate burrowers so that way if she wants a bit more humidity she can burrow down and towards it. She has spent time dug down close to the dampness as well as out in the open up top so it seems that what she prefers varies (maybe with temperature). But she is doing fine.

So they do like some humidity but they don't seem to enjoy actually standing around on wet sub, hence why I mostly just try to keep dampness on the lower layers of sub but not the top. When I do sprinkle water on the top its just on one side of the enclosure.

One other thing...their speed is deceptive. They generally don't move very quickly when they're just out and about but don't let that fool you. Those buggers can MOVE when they feel like it. Had my first taste of it not long after I got her and was doing some maintenance in her enclosure. She got spooked and teleported from one end of the enclosure to the wall of the other in about .01 seconds. They aren't defensive generally, just super quick.

@mistertim Thank you for the input. I've set up a small set up that will allow me to give that sort of setup I believe. I'll post it up here soon. Working on the setup I'm gonna do for the GBB now

I know my post may have made the setup sound complicated but it really isn't bad. Its not as easy as a Grammo or GBB but its not onerous. I just keep the lower layers of sub moist on one side of the enclosure and provide a water dish and hide.

As far as when they start to get their coloration, this is what my girl looked like right around the time I got her...she was probably between 2-2.5".

I've not kept the Pterinopelma sazimai but the three GBB Ts I have all like it dry. I gave them enough sub to make a burrow and none of them have ever hinted they wanted to play in the dirt. They just webbed up everything and hid in the web tunnels. Give them a hide, keep it dry with water dish, lots of anchor points for webbing, and your good. They eat like crazy and if you got a sling watching the color changes as they grow is very cool.

Good luck.
