Awesome pic of salticidae predation, actually I am kinda shocked at prey item taken down, baby 'hoppers are still a strong creature. Was this a photo taken from the wild or is this a pet?

This was taken from the wild. I came across it in my yard yesterday morning as I was mowing the lawn ( when I made a mad dash into the house for my camera!). The grasshopper, and spider, are both about 1/2" (12mm) long. This was a young grashopper, with an adult spider. A full grown grasshopper would be twice that size, so I'm not sure if the spider could take an adult. I have seen these spiders feeding on large harvestmen (Opilione), adult male wolf spiders, crab spiders, other jumping spiders, large flies, etc, so they are certainly capable of handling some tough prey.

I have fed plenty of wild caught grasshoppers to my scorps and true spiders, they can be troublesome for sure. Especially the ones that hop and cling to clean glass surfaces. O.O I doubt any jumping spider can take down an adult 'hopper yet crazier things have happened in the invertebrate kingdom. Once again nice pic!

Absolutely awesome! Salticids are just such incredible predators.
