I bought this Tlitlocatl albopilosus or curly haired tarantula. I was wondering if it’s a mature male or a juvenile. All the pet store said is he molted once that they 4535569D-5740-40E2-AFC0-9FE65DF3C047.jpeg 101362BD-7451-40DC-84A7-5620EBBA1334.jpeg 6D441703-683D-4409-87E3-5C731F660C92.jpeg know of. 28309A07-3228-441E-9FB7-8BD5CEB8A16E.jpeg

Not a mature male yet, post ventral pics here for sexing: https://arachnoboards.com/gallery/categories/epiandrous-fusillae-sexing-not-molts.9/add
Would also give it waaaaaaaaaaay more substrate and maybe a smaller enclosure. Can we get a pic of the full enclosure?
Also your sub is wrong. Should never have wood chips in it. They are abrasive and could be toxic. Stick with coco fiber, or sterilized soil. Can also mix in vermiculite for texture and moisture retention.

Still a sub adult. Too young to tell it's sex with just simple pics. As stated need a ventral shot or to sex it via it's molt.

I just got it today not very much in there. I have 4 in of substrate in the 20 gal tank 7920B760-820A-43DB-8510-A62E8C07C4C5.jpeg D8AF5C67-D7DD-4047-8DD4-1B187B4C8490.jpeg D8AF5C67-D7DD-4047-8DD4-1B187B4C8490.jpeg

Thanks for the help. Should I change the sub now or give it a few days to settle down?

Ok, zero wood chips it’s all coconut substrate. It now has a good 6 inch plus of substrate. The bag of wood chips say tarantula on it? I figured it was safe. 51F66288-CF7C-4EF4-8296-D05499D8F88B.jpeg C166B058-12B2-427D-B35E-DF8CA88B29B9.jpeg

Is a 20 gal fish tank to big for it? I was going to get a few fake leaves and branches for it.

I would agree it is too big currently, but it will be useful later.

Solid rule is that if it can fall more then twice it's body length for terrestrials, it can be deadly. It's not some back burner issue, change it as soon as you can.

Great job on swapping the sub so fast. Your on the right track for a happy T.

Hmmm why is it to young to sex? The size of this albo there is no need for a molt to sex this species.

How are you 100% sure without a ventral shot or a molt?

I disagree with you, at it's size it could still molt into a mature male. Only way to be sure is with a molt. But to each their own.

Let’s just say immature males don’t look like the posters specimen. Also second photo is of a ventral shot 😉. And I am 100% sure is a female. This species is one of the easiest tarantulas to sex.
