Is this araneus diadematus?

I've called these garden spiders all my life, from the dictionary and a insect hand book, I found out it's an English garden spider. Recently told I may be wrong.
They're common in the NW US. Had one winter over last year on a front room window.

Yes, that does appear to be Araneus diadematus.

I really enjoyed your documentation of her winter in the window. Her use of the leaf as a nest was fascinating. It would be really cool if one of her young took over her house :) like in Charlotte's Web!

It is not that you are wrong. "European Garden Spider" is just a common name for Araneus diadematus among about a hundred other species. That's why it is so important to use the scientific names.

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.
And thus the reason for this thread. The OP desired a little more accuracy.
