Is my millipede ok?

I have an American giant millipede that I've had for a few weeks now. I believe I have been taking care of it properly but today I went to check on him and he was above ground, on his side, not moving at all but he also isn't curled up. I've read about when they molt or die/are dying they curl up tightly. He was perfectly fine crawling around yesterday afternoon and I didn't see him at all this morning (assuming he was burrowed). Does anyone know what's going on?
