If I got a blondi sac....

what would I do?

I now have an adult male and an adult female. It would be a shame not to try breeding. But I'm reading more and more that blondis are tough to successfully breed and the sacs are rarely successfull.

Supposing I got an egg sac, is it possible to ship it to someone who knows what they're doing? I have two possibly gravid g. roseas, I thought I'd start out with them to gain experience. But I'm very intimidated by the blondis now, I'd be afraid I would inadvertently ruin a sac if I got one!

Any good suggestions from you successful blondi grandparents?:?

I would just leave it with the mother and hope for the best, but tough call........ Better make your decision fast before the male is six feet under;P

Just put her ina nice, quiet place. Dont disturb her and keep light to a minimum. There would be a less chance of her eating the sac this way. What else would you try? Artificial incubation pops into my mind, but I have never tried it and it isnt on the top of my list.

Have confidence MizM. Know that if failure does occur, it probably won't be your fault.

Many say egg-sacs are destroyed primarily to the mother being aware that the eggs arn't perfect.

What I'd suggest, is to let the mother keep the egg for 3-6 weeks, depending on what those with experience advise, then remove themother from the container, leaving the egg in aplace where mummy-spider feels the egg will be successful....

Other than that, I think you're best chance is to send the gravid female to someone; say they can take 30% of the spiderlings or something like that?

Is sending gravid females really a good idea? sounds risky.....

Yup, shoudl be ok providing they arn't sent too close to the actual lfertilising and aying of the eggs.

I've bought spiders before that have been gravid and had successful spiderlings (H.Lividum) And I also see a lot for sale as "Gravid".

Only thing is, you'd probably be best to hang onto her for a few weeks, and check that she won't 'moult out' from the mating...

More opinions and thoughts on this matter would be most appreciated.

I heard many times that T. blondi breed very easily, the only drawback is that they are very prone to eating the sack. If you want to breed them, put the female in a quite room and don't disturb her at all. The sack won't hatch for 3 months, so I would recommend covering the cage with a towel and check it at about the 2 month range to see if she still has the sack. Then peek in on her every now and then until about 3 months then take it. Or wait 60 days and then artificially incubate the eggs.

About a mounth ago I had a female eat her egg sac about 24 hours after she made it. I was pretty bummed out, but thats how it goes. I have a second female that im expecting a sac from soon, but have learned to not get my hopes up. Any way good luck with your breeding project. Let us know what happens.

I just called one of the local petstores I used to work at cause they are regularly getting males with tibial spurs sent to them in their shipments. Maybe I'll pick up a couple and then send them out to anyone needing one. Drop me a pm as a reminder for anyone needing mature male rosea please, and I'll see what I can do. :D
