Well I decided to give my little rove beetle a look with my new cam. Since this little guy has bitten me around three times allready I thought I'd give him another run for his money when he's really hungry.

He was attatched to my finger and gnawing hungrily for at least three minutes. Didn't get far, I was a tough meal. Don't worry I fed him in the end, at least not on me.

Enjoy the pictures, they look pretty!

So - what do you think this little one is?

Great Pictures. Looks like it really has ahold of your finger.

PS- This has nothing to do with your thread, but you're a beautiful girl.

yeah preferably! I normally have no idea where to start looking, not many people are overly interested in the UK resident inverts. Rightfully so, there's very few inverts here worth ogling!

I might see if anyone knows what exact species of dermestids I have later... but that's for another time!

Yeah, I don't mind being chewed by bugs, I'm not bothered by pain and I am sure I'll grow bits back! How much did they manage to eat?

so that rove was found in your piece of the planet?

actually, the millipede probably ate the most... both centipedes were quite small (~2.5"/7cm bodylength). all three made me bleed though :)
there is a vid of it on youtube www.youtube.com/cacoseraph

and there are other things than bugs to ogle in UK =P

My guess goes out to Carabidae larva...I don't see any compound eyes by the mandibles and I don't see anything on the thorax which indicates wing cases (although pic #3 makes me wonder a bit...)

Lucanidae's the expert on this...and I'd like to see what he says.

Yes it was found outside and I hadn't seen one of these for years so I had to have it. I've seen lots of these in my childhood as well as little orange centipedes, weird millipedes that are flat and quite unlike anything I've seen anywhere else and of course more woodlice than you can fit in... in....anywhere. {D
I'm subscribed to your videos ;) In fact I was loooong ago before I knew of AB, and for the third comment I'm just gonna grin. :D

Aw you crack me up! :p I might pass out giggling here!
I tried ogling leprechauns but they all ran away now. Seems eating them doesn't hold well with those little fellers.

Here have a belly shot... of the beetle!

From the pictures, two segmented urogomphi plus 5 segmented legs with one claw point to Staphylinid larvae. The last picture you posted was by far the most helpful.

I was thinking tiger beetle larvae from the start, but it's just a guess.

I'm currently feeding the little monster a waxie, such a satisfying thing to feed! It reacts so well and so suddenly to any movement, grabbing and pulling whatever touches it under it's peice of wood. I'm definately gonna find some more come spring and see if I can't breed these little horrors!
