Hello,
a friend has brang a Spider from his borneotrip.
I have never seen, such a awsome spider:

I think its a orb-weaver spider, becouse it looks like one.
But my friend has told me, the this spider hasnt a real net, but rather a small "sacknet".
The spider hasn´t builled a net in the tank but she is catching and eating flys.
Often she hangs on a filament about 1-2cm from her knot.
Does anybody know, which spider it could be???

That is awesome! That abdomen looks just like a twig. I don't know about Argyrodes, though, as all the ones I've seen have a smooth abdomen.

THat is one sweet spider, that first pic is amazing. Until I looked at the other pics, the first one looked like just legs, didnt even realize where the rest of the spider was.

OMG this is a true cutie! Love it. I'd say it's an orb weaver of some kind...

hi, Benedict wrote in a German forum, that it was no orbweaver. It doesn´t seem to built any web at all. I wonder if this species is described, since it has an almost perfect camouflage. Maybe that one hasn´t been discovered until now <-- just a guess

If it has been described my guess would go to a monotypical genus distributed at Borneo

hi,
those are orbweavers...you said the spider on the pic above would catch its prey without using a web at all.

Hi,
yes, that´s the only thing i don´t understand.
Today I have talked to my friend and he said that the spider is hanging headfirst from her bark on about a 3 cm distance and so she is waiting until a fly lands on her and then the spider catch it.
A very curious spider I think.
Maybe they make webs only at night:confused:

Sounds like a bolas spider or something similer. Related to orbs I do believe
