I found this interesting larva under a wood pile and have had it in some dirt under a piece of rotting bark. It eats small chunks of rotting wood and is doing very well. I am located in West Texas. I am not sure where the wood came from, but is probably from here. If you can help, please do. I would like to care for it until it becomes an adult.

idk what it is but i think it need more substrate most larva burrow

It's a big native longhorn, probably Prionus sp., possibly Ergates. It may live a while but they can be very sensitive when they go to pupate. If you want it to survive to adulthood find a good size rotten log and let it burrow into it.

that's pretty neat. you should find some more and eventually when they all mature, then try to breed them and have a culture going.
