i'm not really sure the point of this show was that i was watching. It was a lot like jackass, but instead of people getting nut-shots it was just this idiot playing with extremely venomous snakes. he would say stuff like "if its fang scrapes my skin i'll die within minutes" then he'd let it crawl around on a camera he was wearing.

he got bit by a cobra, and i can't say i've ever seen anybody deserve something like that more. he was just sitting there slapping it, and talking to the camera, paying more attention to it than the snake. "oh look its not nearly as ill tempered as the small one, just a warning" and then it bit him. justice.

i don't know what the point was, i mean this guy made steve irwin look like captain careful. is it really that hard to get people to watch shows about snakes when the snake is the star, not the idiot about to be bitten?

He's probably trying to imitate Irwin and push the envelope. It's really pointless.

Poor snake. I bet that guy really scared it. Too bad the bite did not kill him.

I saw that show, and all his others. He is from South Africa and has been playing with cobras since he was a kid. And yes, it is Austin Stevens. If you thought that show was interesting, you should see the one he did with the King Cobra. It was quite impressive. Yes, he did handle it, and yes, he did put his hand on the back of it's head. If you are looking for a real dork, Mark O'Shea is your man. IMO.

Once Austin Stevens was in the amazon and found an Amazon Tree Boa sleeping in a ball. He picked it up and started juggling it!!!! Another time he picked and prodded a seemingly docile boomslang in Africa to show that they aren't aggressive. Unfortunately he wasn't bitten that time. In almost every episode that idiot gets bitten by a hot. Stevens is an idiot but he never really injures the snakes. Or at least they don't show that part. O'Shea on the other hand is notorious for killing snakes by grinding them into the ground with his foot while trying to maintain control of them.

Yes, O'Shea is notorious for over using his snake tools. I remember in one of his shows, he got bit by a Mamba (?) and had to be carried out on a stretcher. He should be shot and fed to the snakes.

Stevens is laughing stock but I really do despise O'Shea.

I agree, Stevens is a laughing stock, but for some reason, I like him. Did you see the one in South America with the 6-7 foot Lance Head? That was a good one. I won't mention O'Shea anymore. Not worth the time.

I either missed that one or forgot it. I must admit myself that for some reason I do like Stevens. Maybe it is his enthusiasum or entertainment factor of watching him get nailed after really good warning by the snake. Did he get nailed by the Lance? God knows he has a bite quota. {D

I like Stevens too in spite of his careless nature. He's a documentarian first and a scientist second. All that seemingly careless jumping around and stuff is just to get good still photos. He takes care not to injure the animals but could respect their danger factor a bit more. He doesn't set a very good example.

Actually TBH, he handled it quite well. He did have a near miss. He was dealing with it in and out of a stream. RATING FACTOR. He is very knowledgable about what he does and he is a pro cameraman. I just like the guy. My favorite is when he snagged the Russell's Viper (which is one of my faves). And he had enough smarts to release it head first when most people would just chuck a snake as far as they could :?

OK, my last post on this thread (maybe). This could turn into a "love 'em hate 'em" thread. We can't mention the guys without bringing in Jeff Corwin and Steve Irwin. I love Jeff. He knows his herps and he knows how to handle his tools. I have seen all his shows and he is not afraid to admit when he is scared of a venemous species, and he handles them quite well. I love his comedy antics and his stuttering when he gets excited. As far as Steve, I have his "Deadly Snakes Of Africa" video. He handled a very large Puff Adder with great ability and ease, and the 7 foot Black Mamba he pulled out of a hut?? He was "sweating bullets" and shaking when he played with that snake. Than of course, there was the "10 Most Deadly Snakes" (all of them in Ausie Land) where he had an Inland Taipan (Fierce Snake) crawl all over his face. He was sweating than too. Sorry, gotta love 'em. Besides, no matter how bad the show is, they feature SNAKES. And that's why I watch them {D

I remember seeing an old show with Austin on it he picked up a cobra that was playing dead and it bit him. Right before he did it he said these guys will play dead and alot of people do get by them because of it. Guess he spoke too soon. I did not like it when he tossed the boa around either.

Cool! I saw the Eastern Diamond Back episode in the Glades. It was awesome when he had the EDB. He placed it down four feet away and got his camera ready. By the time he looked up again the EDB was between his legs! Luckily he didn't get bit but if the snake decided to "strike north" Stevens testies would be no more and a rotted mess!

I like them too. Stevo's death was too premature! Who'd have guessed a sting ray?

no joke! i would have thought "crocodile gets too close" or something along those lines.

i never thought a stingray would be able to pierce someones chest and put a hole in their heart(at least it was an original way to go:( )

That's one thing I respect the most about Irwin, he got tagged by a massive amount of critters, but never by a hot herp. GO FIGURE!!

I miss Steve Irwin...fortunately, they still run re-runs of his show! lol. I was so sad when he died. I remember the exact place I was at his time of death...

I like Austin Stevens, he seems a lot more knowledgeable, and knows what he's doing, even if he brags a bit and is less than careful. Jeff Corwin is annoying, consistently misplaces his facts, and doesn't make me feel confident in that he really knows what he's doing. Austin Stevens at least has a herpetological degree as a concrete base to show he knows what he is doing...something I don't think anybody else has done...

Actually, instead of a Boa, I believe it was an Anaconda. That was a good show too.
