Went out for a quick walk tonight and found a large female under a big chunk of old concrete. It occurred to me that I've yet to see a male. I find females fairly often from spring to fall, but have never found a male wandering or seeking shelter underneath an object. I also noticed that there are no positively identified pictures of males on the BugGuide H. helluo images page at http://bugguide.net/node/view/45881/bgimage.
A Google image search reveals a few, but the BugGuide thing is interesting to me because it does seem to suggest that they are at least somewhat less commonly seen than females, which mirrors my own experiences.
I'm curious what others here have observed!
