So after some years I got in the scorpion hobby again when I was a lot younger me and my dad had caught two scorpions in the wild in Greece we call them the “ classic Greek scorpions( I put a file so you can see them” they are yellow they look very much like the death stalker anyway now I that I am older I caught a few more and would like to expand my species
But I haven’t understood if you need a license to import animals that don’t live in your country especially the hot venomous scorpions or how does it work anyone with experience on that topic if you live in Greece even better so you can explain to me the laws IMG_3218.png

As @kingshockey said. LOCAL JURISDICTIONS! There is no such thing as universal laws, rules or regulations.

Square One: Contact the Customs Department of your government - ALWAYS. They usually have all the rules readily available. Not only do they handle import and export of plants and animals, they usually keep a referral list of local governmental agencies that oversee the movement of the plants and animals. Then follow up with local laws and regulations of your state, parish or whatever and finally, your municipality.

All day, every day on the police forums we get asked "What is the law regarding...." Federal, state, county/parish, municipality or city? Several hundred different penal or other code books.

So, as Greece is part of the EU, there is free trade between other EU countries, meaning you can buy from any EU country and get it shipped as if it's a national transaction.

However, these are just the EU wide laws, which only apply if Greece hasn't decided otherwise. Local laws come first in this case, and I'm not aware of those in Greece, so check if keeping scorpions is legal where you are. If yes, you should be able to buy from any EU nation.

I can not stress THIS enough.

Not sure where you got that from? What @kingshockey and @The Snark both told you is to contact your local government. You may have to use Google to find out the contact information for your local government. However, that did not suggest that you will find the answer to your initial question on Google.

The ONLY way to know what is (and is not) legal, is to contact your local government and speak with someone there. You will have to do that yourself.

However, it would be wonderful (and appreciated), once you find out the answer, to post an update here, so others can know your findings. Please make sure to cite your source and what was said, exactly.

Thanks and best of luck!

i will assume your country has hunting regulations?that should be your first call then to your local fish and game(hunting etc.) then your first question should be to ask about regulations regarding the importation of non native animals along with the premits and such needed. 2nd question is whom to contact(phone number or dept) if permits are needed to own(in possesion) or import said animals. and thats it simple as can be if you cant figure it out still. then just stick with keeping your native scorps.

The competent authority for the protection of animals and the respect of their welfare rules is the Directorate-General for Veterinary Medicine of the
Ministry of Rural Development and Food.

You want the original non translated version of https://www.naws.gr/info/legislation

What I mean is that you need to contact your local Government to SPEAK with someone (yes, you will have to actually pick up a phone and call them), to get the information you are looking for. NO ONE here (unless they work for, or have dealt with, your local Government) can tell you the actual legalities.

Here is a link to the "Greek Ministry of Rural Development and Food":

I'm not sure I understand why you are having difficulty figuring out how to look up your own Government's contact information, and finding how to contact them?

When I type in "Greece Customs Department" in a Google search, here are a couple of links that I found:

When I type in "Customs Government in Greece for Animals", here are several additional links that come up:

Hopefully any of these links will be of help to you. Good luck and please feel free to share what you were able to find out. :)

@Arachnopets @noahscorpion An associate of a friend got back to me on the subject of animal import and export. Seems the OP is rightfully confused. What are the rules? Depends where you are. Then it's prioritized by the value of what is being shipped or received, duty fees, local taxation, cost exceptions, European Union exceptions, and each of the 100 or so customs offices interprets and enforces - or ignores the laws their own way. Sort of each of the customs offices is semi rogue with the primary focus of collecting duty fees.
That the whole shebang of animal import and export is under the Ministry of Rural Development and Food, under the director general of veterinary medicine? Doesn't sound likely to get any useful info from those quarters.
And then, with Greece being essentially an archipelago with a land mass attached, it would be difficult to find a country with more porous borders.

I will research everything you guys have suggested and hope to find something I will let you know but you are right Greece is a mess generally and the reason I am hesitant in calling someone is because in Greece the employees don’t know their job most of the time they have been working for roughly a month or so and don’t know any details about it
