How to feed prekilled to slings?

Slings? The hell, they aren’t adults. You’re suppose to feed them more than once a week to two.
Agreed, if they will eat, feed them. I feed when they sit there looking for food, 3x a week sometimes. My OBT has gone from a .5" tiny tiny to almost 1.5" in 6 weeks, and looks about to molt lol, same with my P. pulcher. I will slow down on these 2 now that they are spiders that are a bit less fragile, and let them sit out and be looked at a bit lol

Yeah especially the fast growing species readily take food every two days. All my little fast growers have grown significantly and have molted twice since I got them in mid October. The ones that slowed down are my fossorials.

H. pulcripes / L. klugi / H. maculata, 1 molt, grown noticeably though. Assuming the others would look like these still if I had a schedule to only offer food once a week or 2. My B. boehmei hasn't even come out the whole time I've had it lol. It doesn't even have hairs yet I don't think, but it sure does kick them at me when I peel back the tape to check on it. I wonder how long it's gonna be burried.. it's plenty plump.

My H. Pulchripes only ate twice since I got it in the beginning of the month. It refuses food here and there but I still offer. It’s little gold has become dark so I’m sure it’s getting ready to molt. My P. Cambridgei and P. Irminia have grown way significantly in the 2 months they’ve given me. It was just like yesterday that they were so tiny. I don’t even recognize them tbh. Both are 1.5. They take food up until a few days before a molt. Look a little plump but nice. I wish terrestrials grew as fast. Most of my T’s are slings. I just recently started getting back into T’s. I stopped for 3/4years. I figured I’d get most as babies because I really do enjoy watching them grow.

I just got back in as well. All I've ever had was a rose hair in the 90's lol, and lots of true spiders. Wolf spiders got me back in, there are so many species here I never realized. I was thinking ahead and ordered my feeders when I ordered my slings too.. got dubia, red runners, and hissers just because hissers lol. Dubia are producing already, and in the last 3 days I have mature red runners in there finally! Another few weeks I should have an endless supply of those which are perfect. And yes I bought an OBT and hmac without ever having an old world species. I'm an adult, and they're cute ;)

I belive if you aren’t a scaredy cat and have a knowledge, understanding, and respect for animals it should be fine. I never had an old world either. I would always see them and say I want a cobalt blue so bad and an OBT but I didn’t have the courage then. But heck I have a good hand with all animals. I’ve raised wild animals and set them free from falcons, to opossums, rats, squirrels, hummingbirds. Etc, I’ve helped trapped wildlife you name it. I’m just a crazy nature freak. Runs in the fam. Was raised around reptiles and T’s. So I got a lot of old worlds now in this collection but I still have my classics as well. I have a passion for animals and like everyone tells me I’m gifted when it comes to that.

Yeah, I'm not scared, so I won't neglect them. So far I haven't seen anything to be scared of tbh but it's early lol. I give them space and so far they are all gentle at taking food. I certainly won't poke and prod for a threat pose to see some blue legs, they're on the top of my pulchripes lol, so hopefully only ever get one on rehouse or something. If I get bit I did something wrong, not them. Didn't think ahead and should've most likely. They don't climb out and find humans to bite lol.

Anyways, didn't mean to hijack the thread.

"slice them, dice them, chop them up... cricket drumsticks still wiggle ;)"

I got bit but it was my fault with the OBT when I was putting it in a more permanent enclosure but I grabbed it with my hands cuz it bolted out and I didn’t want the cats getting to it.

See, next time you'll have a catch cup, something stuffed under the door, and the cats in the other room :p. Every single time I see anything it's not planning ahead and I could see myself do the exact same thing (except I don't have cats), I may just use my hand without thinking. I may just figure I'll walk it over. I'm trying to learn good habits from the start but already I feed them pretty lax, no catch cup, certainly nothing stuffed under the door. I need to step it up a notch lol, bc I have seen these slings move, all 3 african ones. The H. pulchripes likes to teleport. Gave me spooky shivers the first night I saw it, realizing it gets bigger, quick. Be careful of cats too.. they can cause lots of stress just being around, but mine always, always found a way to get things in "catproof" enclosures, and eat them messily on my floor ;) I have lost several lizards to my relaxed approach to cats over the years. I hope the bite wasn't too bad and it didn't unload on you...

Pre killed meal worms are my choice for slings. I feed based on abdomen size.

Then the jack-in-the-box went off eh? BOING! I wasn't trying to be rude, just playful.

lol I've seen a couple re-house vids where the OBTs get that look at the last minute, like wait a minute here, you're not tricking me!

Yeah that’s basically what it did and one of my cats almost tapped it and it got scared so it went where I have a large airline kennel for my big dog and I was trying to cup it there but it was about to take off and u was like if it takes off that’s it game iver. It’ll go where I can’t reach and that cats will get to it at night. So since it wasn’t budging I just grabbed it with my hands.

At that point it was probably the best move, you're hardcore lol. I'm trying to remember how to grab them safely from behind by the thorax and pick them up, did it way back in the day but an OBT might be too fast for that move.. especially a wound up one.. sounds like you did what you had to do.

Yeah there’s no way you can do that with them I did a quick scoop and had the lid on the other hand and right when I was about to lock it in one of its legs was sticking out aha. So I was like I’m too fast for you bro. Ahahahaha, but I’m glad I caught that foot though and didn’t slam the lid. I knew better cuz they always do that for some reason. Stick a leg or two out. Like not so fast I don’t wanna go in. Haha

I haven't gotten any excitement yet except my hmac being out for I'm guessing a week. I looked over on my curtain, hmm spider. spinerettes.. grass spider. looked back at my computer... started thinking "well, I do have old world slings in here now, guess I'd better go look at it". Yup. Hmac on the curtain. She went in the catch cup fine, I think she was probably getting hungry, sure looked it. I taped up every air hole and crack in that enclosure and gave a sigh of relief when she went back in. I figured she was just burried lol. Have a picture somewhere with her mouth so full of fruit flies it looks like an abdomen. It was bigger than her abdomen lol

Wth, you’re lucky. I wouldn’t have given it thought and either squished it or let it be ahahaha.

Damn near let it be, there's grass spiders that come in here, same behavior, look identical from a distance, and I don't care at all about them being here. That was her only chance to get my attention or she probably would have starved. Or wandered into a wolf spider jar which I stopped leaving open after that.
