i am curious what methods people use to count large quantities of roaches. i am dealing with B lateralis and B dubia.

it seems to me that with specimens that are all about the same size e.g. all adult, or all nymph, then you would weigh a few and just extrapolate.

however, with mixed sizes, it seems more complicated. i am getting rid of my surpluses to keep my colony sizes manageable, and want to make sure i am giving a fair count.

any suggestions are very welcome.

Depending on the number is question, depends on my method of counting.

If it's a request for a few hundred or less, I count them, then throw in a 10-12% overcount.

If more, I count about 50-100 out and weight them. Then using this method, I approximate the amount they want.

well i dont really care about lateralis i just count as many as i can as they are running from one tub to the next (im a fast counter)
but the dubia i do by hand as well as most other roaches
small roaches get guessed apon since no one really cares they just know they get what they paid for from me lol :D
