How often should I clean my MHC cage?

I'm planning on getting 3, possibly 4, male Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches. They'll be in a 12x12x12 tank with about a 3 inch bowl where their food is. I read somewhere that you should clean their cages once a month, is that accurate info?

I never really clean my hisser enclosures unless the substrate is literally absolutely covered in frass... And even then, standard portentosa or their hybrids don't usually care about that.
