how do you tell if your mantid egg sac is fertile?

just wondering how you tell if the egg sac if fertile or not?

On the outside there is no difference. But after a month you can cut a small slice of the ootheca and see if the eggs are developing. Offcourse you kill a few eggs. If there isn't any development or if everything is dried out the ootheca is probably unfertilized.

both mums were caught in my garden and layed a day or 2 later.

You can't tell if they have mated. But probably they will. Just wait and see

i have had females lay sacs for me before and were fertile so just hoping for the best
