Theoretically, one breeding pair is enough, since you will usually be rewarded with several egg sacs. Either you buy adult or sexed animals (2.2 to be on the safe side) or enough slings. Personally, I usually get at least one breeding pair with 5 animals. If you can get 10 for a good price, take 10. In Germany it's a bit easier, which we usually exchange with each other. One hand washes the other, so to speak...
You only need to pair the females once in their lives correct? How many slings typically hatch from a sac?
Do you have any tips on how to pair these successfully?
I apologize for so many questions, but I am interested in breeding these spiders and information can be a little scarce.

You are welcome!
The females are very greedy, so they should be well fed before mating. The process is very different. I had spontaneous actions: males in, after 5 minutes it was all over. Then I had matings where I left the male with the female for two days. If the female has been adequately fed, it is rarely the case that the male will be eaten.
So the process is the same as with tarantulas. I put the male to the female, not the other way around!
After a successful mating, continue to feed well, but not too much. If the female is too fat, she lays her eggs "next to it", meaning she closes the egg sac even though a large proportion of the eggs are not inside!
As a rule, I have well over 200 animals in the first egg sac (much less in the 2nd and 3rd). But I've also had matings with almost 70 young animals or over 300... Here you can say: let yourself be surprised!
I also had a H. lunula sack with ~ 600 slings...

Hi

Go with 10. The m/f ratio of lunula is bad. I got 6/6 female here. If you get 5, 3 die, chances are almost zero you get a pair out of it.

Wow.. how do you handle caring for so many slings all at once.. communal housing?

Also, is it possible to sex them before maturity?
