Pictures really don't do her justice. She's the largest Tegenaria that I have encountered to date.

Nice, where abouts are you in the world? Kinda dwarfs this little fella I found a while back stuck to a bit of duct tape:

Great coloration and what long thin legs, is she a keeper or did you release her?

Nice pictures! I love this species. I've caught a couple at my house that were at least half an inch bigger than that one. When let go in the grass they walk over it instead of through it!

I'm in the Seattle area. Definitely the biggest that I have seen so far.

I did end up keeping her. I actually decided to give her the "Presidential Palace".....a 2.5 gallon aquarium!

Yeah, these girls are definitely one of my favorites as well. Funny thing.....when I first got into the hobby, I was quite comfortable holding the tarantulas, (including T.blondi, H.lividum, etc.), yet was nervous around these critters. Must come from my childhood dealings with them!

Very impressive spider. She could have been the inspiration for Shelob in LOTR:D

Lovely pics. A much under rated spider. I kept a teg that dared to run across our lounge one evening. It lived in a tall pasta jar and was a great eater of the little crickets I fed my smaller mantids.

My Tegenaria gigantea laid three eggsacs about a month ago and now they are hatching! I have had this species lay eggsacs for me befor but I have never had this many hatch out. I must have 50 of them and they are still hatching. Usuallly when I have spiderlings I just throw a crik in there and the adult kills it then the spiderlings communaly feed on it. Does this method work with this species? The mom is a VERY aggressive feeder. Also if anybody would like to take them I would be more than happy to give you the babies and the adult female if you can pay for shipping. Any advice is appreciated.

Aww, how cute! I have a pet Tegeneria, and she's still a little girl. I can't wait to see how big she can grow :)

hehe. Yeah, well my girl's really fast. I'm fine holding her, but she usually runs to fast for me to stop her from getting up my sleeves.

We have a large Teg species here in South Carolina, probably the same one. Every single one I've dealt with has had the personality of an OBT, though, much more aggressive than any of our Wolf spiders, so I'm not comfortable holding them like I am with my tarantulas. They are usually quick to throw a theat display, and from what I hear, their bites(especially of T. agrestis)are nothing to sneeze at. I prefer to cup these guys for removal to the outdoors. They are impressive, though.
