Hey guys :p its me again...I was interested in getting a red eyed tree frog and was wondering if anyone could show me a specific cage that would be good for them. I'd like to have somthing larger than a 10 gallon.. somthing with a door that opens in the front and is good with holding humidity. And if there is any advice to be given Id really appreciate it. I've never had one before and I don't want to do badly on my first one. I hear its hard to keep them..but it cant be that hard if u maintain them daily and such. :p Thanks!

also would compressed coconut shell be good for a substrate alongside sphagnum moss? ...i use that stuff for most of my pets..works great with my spiders o.o but i dunno about this one. im afraid to use potting soil in fear that it would harm the animal

ExoTerra markets terrariums that fit your description. If you want a substrate that has similar properties to potting soil, get the bricks of the coconut husk/vermiculite mix.

You want something that has good ventilation/air circulation. At least 50% screen lid would be ideal. I think the large exo-terra's would work as I recall they do have vent holes.

My Red Eye tank, 30 gallon on its side, 4" deep bottom pool, with small water pump/filter, water is heated to 80 degrees, water falls keeps the humidity higher, use a plastic container with 3-4 cricks in it for feeding, it knows where they are, I take the feeder out in the morning. The backdrop is textured foam insulation painted with latex- do not use a oil base the foam with dissolve. I try to keep this clean so no substrate, the water is changed easy, no mold or fungas, screen/glass front cover.

And the Frog, does well in this set up

I've always had a fondness for these red-eyed cuties, but don't think I'd have the patience right now to deal with all that water stuff, so I'll just admire pictures. I have a friend who is setting up a tank for some of these guys, its looking pretty cool so far.

I had concerns about the water as well, so I waited and waited, this is actually my sons, he couldn't wait any longer, the way I made this its easy to maintain, the water tank is siphoned and refilled in less than a 1/2 hr, every crack and crevas is filled with silicone. The pump has a foam filter for large partials. Its really low maintenance so far. For a full clean I take it to the shower and wash and rinse. Don't let the maintenance scare you these are too cool to miss out on.

Even the dowels mounts are groved foam, siliconed on

Its so worth a little bit of work
