I plan on getting an adult Caribena Versicolor and I’ve narrowed down my enclosure choices to two, I need help deciding on it.

Exo Terra Mini Tall (acrylic with holes as modified lid)

Dimensions are; 30x30x45 in cm / 12x12x18 in inches

Or

Arachnosys Arborea M - https://arachnosys.de/en/arborea-m.html

Dimensions are; 25x25x45 in cm / 10x10x17.5 in inches

I was advised to get a 12x12x18 inch enclosure as the minimum size for an adult Versicolor by the pet store employee.

On one hand, an exo terra would save me money (I found one for €69 at a pet store, it just comes with a Tiki back). I would plan to remove the mesh lid and replace it with acrylic or plexiglass with holes drilled in. But I wanted to know if it would give enough ventilation for my Versi. I’ve seen conflicting information about it. Apparently replacing the mesh lid would lower the ventilation? And it’s chimney style, not cross, which is what it would need?

And is the Arachnosys one more recommended? It doesn’t have top ventilation, but does have it on two sides both at the top and bottom area, it’s advertised as cross ventilation. Is that enough with no top vent?

And about size, what size is better? 10x10x17.5 or 12x12x18? (Or is even a 8x8x12 enough? I was told it’s too small.) is 10x10x.17.5 too small as well?

Any help is appreciated!

fisrt of all, will you be getting an adult spider or a spiderling?

i would say even 20x20x40 or in a pinch 20x20x30 are perfectly fine for an adult C. versicolor. 25x25x45 or 30x30x45 is certainly more than big enough.

Larger acrylic has a tendency to warp over time. I use it for my slings and juveniles, but will go glass for my adults. I have a 12*12*20 for my versi's adult enclosure.

they also scratch easy, often aren't sealed but just linked together, so water can run out, etc.

never had any and wont be getting them

I have the Exoterra 12 x 12 x 18s (30x30x45cm) and use for my versicolor and pokies. They work great. The Versi probably could have been in there 8x8x12, which I have for my Avis. I replace the lids with acrylic because it helps with humidity, and visibility

If you do a full lid replacement there are little indentations you have to work around

2 shots of a 12" and a shot pf an 8" lid

and warping depends on thickness and grade of the acrylic. This is art grade, extruded .223" Exo 12 P1.jpg Exo 12 P2.jpg Exo 8p1.jpg

As slings they are very sensitive, need allot of cross ventilation, I would try to get a bigger almost juvie size if you could, especially if you never had one before.

Mine are .19" / 4.83 mm. Pretty much a straight punch with a 3/16th bit
