So as some of you may have read in my other thread, I will be breeding my 2 reticulated python in the next year or 2. What I am going to do before this is set up a large cage for them. I will be using a walk in cloest as their cage. I will build a wooden-framed temper glass door for the opening. Then I will seal all the cracks and what not with silicoine and expanding foam. The ground is currently vinyl flooring. but will be covered with about 5-6" of aspen bedding. I will add large logs and plants in there for decoration. I will also put a kiddy pool in there for soaking and drinking. I'm going to have a filter on it, but will be changed weekly.

My only conern is heating, what would be the best way to do this? The room is 7'W x 8'L x 10'H. All suggestions will be appreciated!

Feel free to point out any flaws or any other suggestions.

Paul, sounds like a good setup. For breeding purposes, the female will need direct heat to lay on, but you already know that. I would try something with heat tape with that size enclosure. Since you use aspen now instead of newspaper, you will probably have to cover the tape with something else. And remember the thermostat. But you know that too. Just my 2 cents :D

Not that I'm sure radiant heat panels would be of much benefit for that large of a space, I would recommend getting them from pro-products:

They have other interesting husbandry items that are useful if you keep humid loving herps.

I would use an oil filled electric hearter for the general room heat and a heat mat for the floor heat.

I was going to recommend an oil filled space heater as well....

In addition for basking lights you can use 250 watt heat lights from the hardware store. The lights are about $7-10. Make sure to keep the lights away from the water though.
