Hey everyone.Out of curiosity, how are you cleaning your long sleeved shirts you use when maintaning your NW kickers?.

I will normally wear nitrile gloves when i do chores on the enclosures. And eye wear.
I have been lucky over the years with a very small number of kickers, and when they started kicking ,they soon stopped.

But now i have a Pamphobeteus sp duran, that has started to kick like no tomorrow. So i started wearing long sleeved flannel shirts when doing anything with him.
I am going to keep that shirt for such occasions
i plan on throwing that shirt by itself in the washer, with soap and very hot water, hopeing it breaks down any setae on it.

Any thoughts, ideas or what has worked for you?.

I went full crazy and bought up to the shoulder gloves. Made for chemical testing, they have grip texture on the hands.

That’s a good idea.I looked online and found some disposable shoulder length gloves, used for vet use for horses and large farm animals.
Price seemed reasonable for 50ct box.
Thanks.

Mine are a thick, lined non-latex material that I just rinse off in the shower each time.

I just wear regular shirt but one time I had to wash it twice because hairs didn’t clean out because the load was too large so smaller loads yes . I used to wear a light jacket hairs didn’t stick too . I wear long dish gloves for rehouses and stuff . Regular throw away ones I have got for other maintenance.

I don’t think I would wash it with other clothes, just by itself.
Did you have any residual hairs after the second wash?.I would think very hot water and detergent would break down and release any hairs imbedded in the fabric.
I may have to do an experiment.🤒,

I used to just wash the shirt itself yes or pants too if they get haired . I’ll try using a jacket next time my old one doesn’t fit . I generally don’t need anything but tongs for cleaning water dishes and feeding. But cage maintenance I need protection for or rehousing. Second wash removed hairs yes . Might only take one tho next try . It sucks my biggest cage is unused because I got no shelf space for it . It sat in my bedroom . :( Got haired bad removing most the dirt to carry it . So I didn’t save the top soil.

I got LP hairs inside the sleeves of my robe, and itched for 2 weeks. Washed it once and it was enough...there would be no mistaking it on my end 🤣

I recommend washing it with your underwear 😁

I try my best not to stress the spider. If they get stressed, I just close up and move on. Clean them next time, hopefully they are in their hide or somewhere else. Never had a big issue with hair kicking unless I am getting over zealous with getting a photo.

But I also stick to African and Indian species....;)

(Kidding)

I prefer no sleaves, hard to wash. I prefer my arms itchy than my underwear after a washing machine run.

I never had an issue but the majority of my Tarantulas don’t have urticating hairs.
