I have a H Pulchripes sling that I've been considering moving. Today, I put a small dubia in there that somehow got off it's back and burrowed underneath her web wreaking havoc to her burrow. I crushed the dubia's head, but apparently not good enough. My sling isn't too pleased.

I figured now may be a good time to give them a bit of an upgrade. I have an off brand mini critter keeper (smaller than a mini probably) that I thought about moving them into. I'm guessing my T is just going to find a nice corner and plop there, but I'm thinking this would give them an opportunity to lay some more web in a less confining space.

I posted a few pictures of what I was going to use for an enclosure, but I wanted to ask if you guys think this is a suitable option at the slings current size? You can also see a side by side comparison of the cube they are in now.

Thanks

That'd work for one, so long as you filled it up with enough substrate that there's only be ~4" headspace, but ONLY one. How many are in that cube?

Personally I think it'll be fine in the cube its in now for at least another molt or two. Rehousing it because of a loose feeder doesnt make a whole lot of sense to me ( maybe I interpreted incorrectly your reason for wanting rehouse it)

More or less the roach forced my T out her burrow, collapsed the burrow they made. Then managed to get under the carpet of web and made a mess of things. My T's fine, they just returned to the damaged burrow and squeezed themselves in lol I was kind of interested to see what they would do with more space. That critter keeper tapers at the bottom and opens up more towards the top. But basically it's 2 of those cubes in floor space. Maybe 2.5 max since it would be filled pretty deep with substrate.

This is basically what the moron roach did. I predict my sling is going to move in to that layer underneath once the roach dies or gets eaten

It'll rebuild the burrow and also have to rebuild a burrow if your rehouse it. If you get the feeder out of this it's probably fine in the cube. Rebuilding a burrow is no biggie

Yeah thats what I'm thinking. That dubia is probably on the bottom somewhere, but I learned my lesson on that one. My sling has no problem taking down medium to large crickets, so I thought I'd try a small bordering on medium dubia. But, I think I'll just leave them be in the cube until they hit the 2" mark. Thanks

When my H pulchripes left a bolus in the bottom her burrow that molded, she refused to go back in. She also became very defensive. I rehoused her into an enclosure much bigger than most here would advise, but she has done great. At 2”, she was in a 6x6x8 with anchor points to web and a hide. She immediately built a turret in the center, over time laid a web blanket over everything, and has molted twice so far.

This is really helpful. Thanks! The little critter keeper I have is basically 2 of those cubes in floor space, so really not a huge palace. Given that their pretty heavy webbers, my guess would be that finding prey wouldn't be an issue. You've given me something to think about

While not the best picture, here she is stretching after her most recent molt. (Note, don’t put the water dish on the opposite side as the opening..) Also, you will need to watch closely to make sure they get the feeders until the “winter wonderland” is in place. IMG_0162.jpeg

I love it! Can't wait for the heavy webbing :)
