I got a breeding pair from G. Carnell (George) last Feb '07. The female was supposed to be gravid. This is the most beautiful heterometrus in my collection.

Female last Feb.

SUCCESS!!! Credit goes to George for a job well done.

Picture last 06/24/07

The scorplings molted to 2I last 06/30/07

exuvium

They left their mom's back the following day 07/01/07. So I took out the mom and gathered her babies.

Mom

Babies! Total of 19.

They already ate pre-killed crickets and are very active.

Here's the little bugger.

I'm not risking cannibalism so I am separating them into individual containers soon.
Picture taken today 07/02/07

I will continue this thread to monitor their growth. I will post pictures for every successful molt.

Congrats, Alakadan.

Could you tell me if there is a visible sexual disphorism in this species?

NIce , How long are they suppose to stay on?
They stayed on the mom for 6 days.

Congrats, Alakadan.

There is hardly any visible difference except the male is more slender. I honestly have not done the pectine count. Perhaps George could enlighten us.

i bet it would be better to keep the 1st brood or a 2, before sending some loose on the country... that would make a stable no. of h.f. for you, and so far you might encounter some new discoveries there. ;P

Update

I kept 6 and sold the rest to fellow enthusiasts.

They are now 3rd instars! Molt between July 20-23, 2007 or almost a month after they were born. RH is still at 85% and Temp. range from 32C daytime and 28C night time. Feeders are a combination of pinheads and mealworms.
