Good news: I order my Psalmopoeus cambridgei sligns tomorrow! :D

Bad news: I can't stand the pet shops by me. I was looking at the arachnids in my one shop I thought was good....I guess they don't know jack about arachnids. they had rosies and avics being kept on aspen...something tells my noobish self that something is wrong there. Then I went to another shop and they had this nice 2-3 inch OBT.....for $46! I asked the employees what kind it was and they responded "uh...that thing has been flying fangs at us I wouldn't recommend it. They(i assume she meant the dealer she got it from) called it a sunburst thingy...." Well I feel comfortable with a perfectly nice looking spider in a shop where people can't even name it(they eventually settled on african baboon tarantula....like that narrows it down...I assume it was P. murinus if it was a sunburst)...not to add it's in a 16 oz deli cup with no water or substrate(more importantly, i think, no water).

I feel like saving the OBT but idk....$46 is a hefty price tag but I've never really seen intelligent people by pets from there. Usually they're all bought on impulse. I'd just hate to see a pretty spider go to waste. :confused:

Or if they don't take the 20, open it so he/she can give a good threat pose and then ask again if you can have it for $20 :D

well i was hoping by seeming interested in it they'd give it to me for free because it's so agressive(they even have a warning on the cup).

But would this be a great idea for someone who hasn't really had T's? I mean I'm ordering three Psalmos for my firsts and I've heard mixed reviews on OBTs...

I'd try to get it for a discounted price. OBT's are awesome. Fast as hell, though. lol

I don't know if bargaining would be the best idea at a place I plan on applying to!

I feel your pain here. It sucks that they don't know how to take care of arachnids. The only problem I see with buying it from a LPS is that there is a chance it could be wild caught and even if it isn't you are still going to have to deal with getting it back to good health. Personally I think obt's aren't that bad, all you have to do is be aware of where they are in the enclosure at all times while doing cage maintenance, feeding, etc. If I were you I would buy an obt sling off of someone here on the boards and then that way you know you are getting a CB specimen and it will most likely be well cared for and 100% healthy when you get it, plus you wont be 40 bucks in the hole. Btw have fun with the cambridgei's, they are an awesome species.

I would just pay the $46 just to save it no matter if it was WC or not....

You buy a T from a pet store that has no idea what it's doing, and then it'll get replaced with another T and the problem persists.

Maybe nobody will buy it and it'll be one less store that's selling Ts when it shouldn't in the first place. If the store knew how to look after it then it would be a different story.

I know I probably shouldn't buy it from this pet store and offer patronage, but sad to say this store has been around for ages(almost 15 or 20 years) and I doubt it's going to go anywhere soon.

Oh don't get me wrong, I love pet stores! I just would hope that if it didn't sell the T then it wouldn' sell them anymore or maybe learn to look after them properly.

I'm no hater :}

But then again those are just my hopes and dreams so at best maybe you can get a deal out of it. Best of luck!

If they give it to you cheaper, I think you should get it! You'll LOVE having an OBT. They are SO COOL.

I know they're common as dirt in the trade, but they have some gorgeous coloration. Especially the blue tarsi!
