GBB protecting shed

She just shed & shes protecting her shed. Shes not webbing over it, just moving it around & then standing over it. I put a cricket in there, she ignored it but then finally ate it. Any ideas on what shes doing? Kim

Sometimes after a molt they gnaw at it possibly for some extra moisture in the exuvium after molting.

Also, it's theirs so it's no big deal if you let it remain and most will clean house after some time and typically bring it out of their hide or webbing so you can clean up.

One last point and a question. How long after molting did you offer prey? It's recommended to wait a few days to weeks (depending on age and size) to allow the T to fully harden it's new exoskeleton after molting. One key is to check the fangs and if the are still pink'ish then wait longer.

If you feed prey to early there is the chance the prey could nibble at the T in this vulnerable state or even if they were to attack it could break their new fangs on the prey causing damage and possible death to the tarantula.

Its been over a week now since she molted. She can have the shed as long as she likes, I hadnt planned on taking it out until she was done & it was collecting dust. Kim

tarantulas observe all the moisture whats left after molt in that old skin, besides that their old skins is their favorite toy
