fuji finepix questions.

ok heres is what I want out of my next camera and I'm hopeing you guys can tell me which model to get.

*at least 4 MP
* big time optical zoom
* I want great macro shots
* and probably most important I don't want that 2 second delay between pressing the button and the picture actually being taken, I'm sure some of you know what I am talking about I hate that.

I will mostly be useing it for nature photography ( why I need the optical zoom, and macro) but I also whant to be able to take good pics of the kids ( why I can't stand the delay ) my mom has a 6 MP camera that I can't use at all you can't controll anything on the camera, you can't turn the flash off, you can't adjust the setting very much at all. I want a good camera that is prety easy to use. and mostly I hate that delay so let me know I am pretty sure I want a fuji finepix they seem to take great pics. so now its just down to what model... thanks for the help....

My fuji is an S602, but it's only 3mpix and some change. I can say however that it (or rather that line, at least) has a smaller shutter delay than I've seen in other cameras, so I think you'll be satisfied either way.
So, whatever one is the next step up should satisfy what you're looking for

If you've not kept fuji cameras before, I reccomend making sure you get the lens adapter exttension (basically an aluminum tube threaded on both ends) and a basic set of filters (polarized, UV, warming, etc) That adapter will also let you use fuji's macro and wide angle lenses as well as any others you care to get that fit that size ring

Myself I would take any of the higher end Nikon models over the FinePix as I have tried most of the cameras around and simply was not impressed by the Fuji. Some folks have them and they do ok but overall the Nikon seems to be a better camera. For that matter if not going Nikon I would take Sony over Fuji as well.

I'd advise to stay away from sony cameras for two reasons:

Proprietary batteries, which cost a MINT to replace and/or get an extra to keep around
proprietary memory, which is usually (last time i looked) more expensive than the equivalent compactflash card

I had a sony DSC P1, which i was satisfied with (serious beginner's camera) except for those two points: in particular the battery life, which sucked and was never consistent between chargings. My finepix runs on four AA batts, get a few packs of NiMH
(1080mAH version or higher) rechargables and a charger and you'll be good to go

Both reasons I prefer the Nikon. In fairness to the Sony though the new one takes compact flash also and has a better battery life than the older models.

If you really want a good camera i suggest canon digital rebel its 6.3 megapixels. Great camera just the price is a little higher, but would probably be the last camera you would ever buy. It is a SLR so you can change the lens for what you are shooting. Has point and shoot and alot of manual functions. And far as i know nikon uses a sony chip in there digital cameras.

If you don't want to spend a higher amount on a Nikon, the Canon A80 is a great compromise. It has the full range of adjustability you need (depth of field, 4 mp, hoigh resolution, 6cm macro, adjustable white balance, adjustable exposure, aperture priority, shutter speed priority and adjustability etc etc)
It's not the fastest to focus but once it has focused there is no real noticable delay. For me, the big bonus was the £250 price (think they come in at under $400) and the fact that it can take proper SLR type additional lenses - ie telephoto and so on. Massive bonus for versatility.

Might be worth going to a specialist with a couple of test subjects (maybe some cast skins) and asking to take and view a few test pictures.
