Looks like a Sharptailed snake to me. it was very calm and let me take a few pic before i left him go again. enjoy

Jw, yeah, it's looks to be a Sharptail (Contia tenuis). They get 12-18 inches total length. Where are you at? The snake is located from central to northern CA and up the coast of Oregon with a few smatterings in Washington. They mostly eat slugs and their eggs but captives have been known to take Slender Salamanders.
