So i recently set up a 10 gallon tank for two Asian Forest Scorpions. I have a few inches of eco earth substrate on the bottom, but ive seen false bottoms mentioned alot.
My questions are basically what the benefits of one is and the purpose of a false bottom

False bottoms are an effective way to keep a quantity of water in the bottom of the tank without keeping the substrate soaking wet. It helps keep humidity high and if you have plants in the tank it acts almost like a hydroponics system. They can send roots down to the water while getting nutrients from the soil. I personally wouldn't use a false bottom except in very specific circumstances. If I were trying to keep fish while having a dry land section for frogs or something then I would have a false bottom, otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it. It's more hassle than it's worth for me
