Alright. As you know I put our male emilia Zevo in with our female Cinder.
All seemed well enough yesterday and I even got a few pictures. But since Zevo had built another sperm web I decided with the house quiet to let him have another shot.

Well Cinder and he acted just like they did ysterday and he shoved her all over the tank. But this time instead of watching from above I watched from the side.

He got her fanged hooked like he did yesterday and hauled her back like he did yesterday. But he never got his palps in her.
His palps kept scrabbling along her belly but never hit target.
After about twenty minuts of this, Just like ysterday...
he backed off.
Cinder backed up into her hide and Zevo decided to vacate the vacinity.

Can anyone tell me what the problem Might be?
Is there anything that can be done to possably help outside of a pair of galsses and our a bullseye on Cinder's belly?

He keeps hitting Well below the mark, and needless to say doesn't listen when I tell him it's higher...

So anyway I hope you experienced breeders can help us out here.

Thanks very much in advance.

I think that this is a question for our breeders here. But the question that pops into my head is whether he's ever bred with another female before? If not he might be getting overly excited and whatnot. I guess this might be a case of practice makes perfect.

I don't know if he has ever mated a female before.
And frankly How does one go about helping a male T Hit the mark?
I don't know if one can.. doesn't seem like there's much choice except letting him Get that practice and keep letting him try until he either does it or she gets sick of his visits and invites him to stay for dinner instead of getting away.

Hopefully one of the breeders will come online soon and offer up some expert advice. Just hang in there. I'm sorry I can't be too much help.

No problem. ;) Once you get a whole batch of babies, I'll be sure to purchase a sling from you as well.

If Zevo can get the job done and get us some babies.

Then there's the task of talking Eden into letting me sell or trade any of her babies....

=D

That's gonna be the fun part. lol.

Separation is always a sticky situation with kids. :( But I'm sure your daughters will understand once they see how many babies there will be. 200 or so slings are an awful big responsibility. :D

Honestly I don't forsee too big of a problem if and when the babies do arrive.
I'm just going to keep reading and I guess I'll figure things out.
I get the distinct impression I have done Something here on this board that isn't liked.
And the distinct impression that I am on my own.

Ah well.

I've never been anyone but myself.

Things will be as they will be.

I'm sure it will be fine. I know there's a first time for everyone regardless of their degree of experience with breeding Tarantulas.

nothing too unusual here...

Sometimes males just seem to have trouble finding the target as it were. No need for concern as if she was receptive and let him try then she will let him try again. He will get it eventually but some males just tend to be nervous and are more worried about escaping afterwards than getting it right. A lot of Brachypelma males are bad about this but rest assured he will figure it out.

Thank you Phillip.
I'll give him all the shits he'll take as long as Cinder is receptive, which she is. :)

Hehehe.
I'm just a typo queen.
=D

Well I'm heading out for some crickets and coffee.
Then will let him have another go at her.
:)
And he seems like nice people and that sounded like good advice.
Cinder doesn't seem to be stressed over his visits.
So theres no harm in trying.

:)

Update

Another try.
Another run of bulldozing.
Another miss and run.
I was very tempted to boot his butt right back in there with her and tell him to get back to work and get it right!
:p
But I put him back in his tank and gave him the pep talk.
"Come on now boy, you gotta get your act together now. Get some rest and try again tomarrow."

Yes,,, me talking to the T.....

I gave Cinder a few more crickets.
She ate one and ignored the other so.
She's topped off for the next attempt.

:p

I think the boy needs a copy of the tarantula kuma satra....

I just finished reading the tarantula keeper's guide and they talk about placing the female into the males enclosure for mating but shark caging the female first on the opposite end of the enclose from where the male hangs out. Then if they show mutual interest let her free. This stresses the male less than moving him around so he may perform better. The info might be outdated but I thought I'd mention it.
