So my landlord is all right with me having tarantulas, however, she has an exterminator coming over this Saturday. My common sense instinct is to find a T sitter for a few days, but I was wondering if that would even be necessary considering he's just spraying a water based repellent? I know I probably am gonna have to go with the T sitter, but honestly was wondering what everyone thinks or if there really isn't anything to worry about considering I don't take my Ts out and he isn't gonna spray them.

Still. Contamination can, and likely will, happen.

Say he sprays all the wall/floor meetings.

Your clothes touch it. You touch your clothes. You touch an enclosure, even after washing your hands. Your clothes touch the enclosure. Bam, contamination. It's tricky.

Though I don't know how this will effect the Ts, I would rather be safe, especially if you have a T sitter already lined up

yup go wit ur gut instinct and move your ts for a few days or even a week and save the risk.. you want the house / room to air out real good. ive read pages where people will use things like body sprays/ colognes and even smoking and it somehow can and has affected peoples ts..... it could end up fine , but why find out the hard way

I don't know if it's possible, but maybe you should try getting the exterminators number and ask them yourself. Since your landlord knows you own Ts she should understand your concern and may be willing to give you the number or find out for you. I think it depends on whether the chemical works by direct contact or if there's an airborn affect. If you can't get an exact answer I would play it safe and use the sitter. Better safe than sorry.

After the exterminator visit, and before you bring your Ts back into the house, you may want to collect a local spider and keep in a container in the house for a week or so to see what, if any, effects there may be.

Everyone has contributed good advice. As a former exterminator I am curious about the NEED to have your place treated. Many infestations can be eliminated with very low toxicity formulations, delivered to strategic locations. What are they 'spraying' for?

Safer than sorry may not be a bad idea, however I have my home sprayed every month and I don't think it has affected any of my guys.

I do however put a large sign on the outside of my t door that says not to spray in or around the room.
