Excavator Clay question

Hello, So I'm purchasing a Mozambique Burrowing Scorpion and planning on making a set up with some excavator clay. Anyone who has experience, should you wait till it dries up before placing the scorpion or let them burrow while it's still wet? I've seen videos that show that the clay can get super hard once dried so I wasn't sure if it would be best to have them start when it hasn't hardened.

I add sand and gravel to excavator clay...mix...allow to dry.

For burrowing Ts, wait till it hardens up, would think the same applies to their cousins.
