Hey there folks,

A bacilifer I got recently molted in my care - I don't believe it's eaten since I got it about a month ago. It's been 4 days since the molt and it still hasn't eaten yet.

My juvenile Phrynus Whitei is good to go after about 2 days after molting - are euphrynichus THAT different or should I start questioning my care?

Ignore the drivers licence meant to glue the styrofoam to the plastic - the enclosure should be good. Nice and moist, kept at around 22c. The picture is from when it first arrived, it IS able to access the crickets.

4 days is nothing, especially for Euphrynichus which are rather slow growing IME. Just give it time and make sure you're offering some droplets to drink.

I've got the weirdest updates -

My Phrynus Whitei began taking food again after many, many days. I thought she was in pre-molt, turns out I was just starving her? She refused food as of a month ago, I figured "why not" today and she took it. Very weird.

As for the E.Bacilifer,I think the animal is in 3rd instar. Certainly big enough to take living crickets. But after molt is only accepting pre-killed prey. None of my ambly have ever had that requirement before.
Figured I'd post a couple updates in case other keepers were curious. Weird animals!

That doesn’t shock me too much for the bacilifer. They’re quite picky about their prey, I suspect because of the way they capture compared to other amblies. Mine will only take very small prey compared to body size, unlike Phrynus which will wrestle crickets as large as they are

I’ve found just about all whips take prekilled readily, and it’s honestly how I most of the time feed my early instars. I highly recommend it for picky eaters and anything small over say like fruit flies. It’s just convenient and much easier than stressing about wether or not a picky species will handle a prey item or not, especially close to molting.
