I received a juvenile Eresus Walckenaeri 2 days ago. I’ve kept him in the same rearing ventilated tin he came but however I removed the wood shaving and added some moss and coco fibre. The spider has shown no sign of wanting to web it just wanders the moss and sits still for long periods of time. I’ve had it for two days. I tried feeding it a fruit fly today and he became much more active moving around quite fast but he seemed afraid of the flies, when they came close he would cower away into the moss. I am wondering if he’s still just adjusting to the new environment or why is he not webbing.

Maybe there are some parameters that are not quite fitting for the little one.
Does the temperature and the humidity fit the needs?

But also 2 days is not a very long time to settle. Personally i don't think it is problem. Just wait a little more and give the small one thome time.

Did you remove all of the wood shavings? I have about a dozen or so callobius slings in deli cups. They lived collectively with their mom with a lot of that wood wool, when I went to separate them I was surprised how many were hiding in the wood excelsior. The guys I still have in the deli cups seem to like the wood. They are able to climb around and although they aren't big webbers, they do spin a little. They act afraid of the fruit flies a bit, but the flies are usually gone the next day and the spiders are thriving. Does your eresus have anything to climb on or use for a little hide? I sometimes just lean a little stick or two inside the deli cup for them to climb on. Good luck!

Yeah it’s all good she just arrived in pre moult. She’s established a nice little tunnel of webbing and is eating everything I feed her as soon as I drop it in
