Emerging Mantids (Dial up death)

Hey all, one of my Cilnia humeralis ooths is busting open with lil mantids.. figured I would share the cute lil buggers with ya. Also managed to get some emergence pics...

Thats pretty rad. Does a ooth have like a outer casing then the eggs live inside?

That is correct.

It's a foam that hardens up. The eggs are laid inside the foam before it hardens

These lil guys are still emerging two days later lol.

Amazing pictures Jenny. I just had my first round with mantids, and even though I separated many of the babies, they all ended up dying.... Any input?

I love mantids but never tried to breed them yet. Great pics, very cute!

I didn't personally breed them, I got them from padkison.

Currently we are up to around 70, give or take a few. I'll be separating the newly emerged ones tonight to get a quasi final count... if they ever stop emerging that is lol.. as we speak two more are making their appearance :wall:

So far I've only had 3 die on me, mainly by drowning in the one drop of water in the bottom of the enclosures

As for conditions so far it's lots of room, lots of ventilation ..
