i'm getting a red corn snake over the weekend, it will be my first snake. i was wondering if anyone had any good information or websites i should check out before i get it so i have everything prepared. thanks
thanks, i just put the first name i saw downthats actually the old name this is the new 1 pantherophis guttatus![]()
thank you so muchMake sure you get Kathy Love's book "Corn Snakes: The Comprehensive Owners Guide" you can buy it at www.cornutopia.com or most pet stores have it as well.
A couple of good forums are:

Other than that, they're easy to care for. Enjoy. =)
*psst* I still use the name Elaphe guttata
Just move slowly but firmly arround them. Don't jerk with your hands when you go close or if you get bitten. Just stay cool and grab 'em. They'll calm down as they grow up and it helps if you pick them up on a regular basis so that they get used to it and remember you better.very nice! i recently got into snakes as well..but my two corns are still pretty young compared to that one. hows its temperament? one of mine is pretty nervous and likes to bite until you have it out of its tank and in your hand. the other one has never tried to bite me, or anyone ever.
mine hasn't tried anything weird, there was another one at the shop that tried to bite everything that went near it though!very nice! i recently got into snakes as well..but my two corns are still pretty young compared to that one. hows its temperament? one of mine is pretty nervous and likes to bite until you have it out of its tank and in your hand. the other one has never tried to bite me, or anyone ever.
