Egg sac ID - South-East England

Can anyone identify the egg sac i found? I'm pretty sure it's spider.

It is white, soft-looking and new here, but now is darker and looks harder. It is on the skyward facing side of a log next to a pond (in case this info helps)

It is approx 1 and a half inches across.
Any help very much appreciated.

Hi,
I remember an ID request for something like that a long while ago, i cant remember that actual species but it is some kind of mould/fungus
Not an egg sac im afraid

Ah, ok. That's a shame - I was looking forward to having a bumper crop of babies.
