i have colony of dubia that is dooing fine.
but i have too many animals so i can not rely on those yet.
i can tell when mail is about to die or at least is old...things whit ruffle
wings...
but ho9w can u tell when female is old and not capable to give offsprings ?
i want them to be my prey insect that i give....


is there any sign?

why not feed the males?

you only need 1 male to impreg a whole colony and by saving the potentially gravid females, you sure get a fast breeding colony......

I used that scenario for a while until I got a real dubia plague on my hands. now I feed the occasional female as well.

but only if they're taken right away; I already had to track down a herd of baby dubia's in my rosea-cage

that dumb spider had one of those "i'm a rosea, let's not eat for a few months"-period, and the quietly hiding mom dubia had turned that cage into a second dubia breedery with a tarantula as guest :wall:

it didn't hurt the spider at all, but now I just watch. if it isn't eaten right away I remove it, or just feed males.

Yea, you want to keep a few males around. i fed off 90% of my males and then the remaining ones died. I was stuck with a static colony for a while.

While I was getting my colony started I mainly just fed males but now I also feed the occasional female as well.

Question guys, are subadult dubias ok for breeding already/starting a colony?

yeph why not.. i have started with 100 and after 4 months i am on the road...
