So, you'll need a hole saw. The blue box just pushes through from the bottom and stops at the lip. Those little latches are attached to screws, so you tighten them according to the thickness of the wood. Then just flip them out and the box is secured. On the opposite side, you just screw the ceramic fixture into it, and wire goes though the box and out the top. It's very simple. This is how I set up the ceramics and all the lights on my reptile enclosures. These all have been running for about 3 years now.

So, my thought is to do the same exact thing on a plywood board and use it as a lid for my roaches.

Very cool, but what about moisture, do you use this setup for anything needing high humidity?

Yeah. My New Guinea Frilled Dragon is consistently around 70-80% humidity. I think moisture tends to collect on cool surfaces. Hot surfaces just evaporate moisture off. So it never appears wet.
