Given that the three biggest species are in the hobby, I started thinking today. Does one of us have THE actual biggest spider currently living in the world just sitting in the back room? Holy cow.

Biggest discovered species :). It would make sense though that a healthy captive bred and kept specimen of the largest species in the world might just get to be the largest single spider in the world!

Actually, this might be a good opportunity for Theraphosa sp. owners to start posting pictures next to rulers.

Let's see who has it:)

The dislike is kind of a joke. Lol. He gave me my very first 'dislike' rating, so I owed him one :cat::cat::cat:
If you ask me the most 'evildoer' rating is "Clarification Please"... I think that rating is 'soaked' with a dose of seriousness able to harm my lovely genuine nonsense in the long run. Plus seems so... cold, like receiving the IRS visit in pure morning before even coffee time, eh? :angelic:

I would take tons of 'disagree' and 'dislike' instead of 'Clarification Please' everyday :)

My t.stirmi on her extra large zoo med corner water dish. She is easily 8.5-9", my t.apophysis is easily 7-8". They are by no means 12-13" but they have big fangs pushing

The theraphosas have been the largest tarantulas for many many years now, you just now thought about this?

I don't have any huntsman spiders, let alone Heteropoda maxima, but they are pretty cool. Maybe someday. Or were you just referring to tarantulas?

Those skinny Huntsman spiders can be considered only by legspan, they will never attain the mass of a Theraphosa. They aren't really a worthy contender for largest spider. :p
It would still be really cool to keep one though.

I keep checking back -- I know not to expect a 12" dinner plate size T -- but c'mon? No 9 or 10 inch tarantulas here? (sad sigh)

Ok guys, where are the big spider pics?

I don't have any seriously big spiders, not owning any Theraphosas and my ornatas are still juveniles.

My largest is my L. klugi at about 7.75" - I need to get her to walk over a ruler but she isn't really cooperating :sour:
