do any of you know any kind of spider/bug that you can find in ny and keep as a pet... i mean not having to buy one but rather find and keep?

The diversity of true spiders and insects in NY is amazing. Any kind can be brought inside and kept as pets. Cool ones would include

Argiope spiders
Praying Mantids
Reduviidae (ambush bugs)
Salticids (Phiddipus sp. are large and have colorful chelicera)
Any number of cateripillars
Belostomatids (Giant water bugs)
Bess Beatles

And tons more.

where do i find these? i looked all over my house for some spiders but i cant find any.... theyre good at hideing. lol

It is winter in NY right now, your chances of finding anything out and about much more than pholcids are pretty low.

wow...

ive lived in ny for all my life and never have i ever seen one of those salticids or whatever... i did look outside but all i found was some pill bugs and some millipedes... btw how big do the millipedes in ny that hide under logs get? i also found this thing that looks like a stink bug... it has 6 legs and a body like a stink bug but it also has a weird shaped head... and its first set of legs has some killer size biceps. lol its black and a yellowish color with a gray and orange body.
